Beyond Language

Whether I’m teaching Kiswahili in America or teaching English to children in China, the meanings that are forged beyond syntax and grammar are inexplicable. It’s a continuous process of discovery that’s embedded in the connections which cannot be articulated in any language.

Stay tuned for conversations in Swa (Kiswahili as spoken in Nairobi)/Dholuo online meets.

PS: I was in Tanzania for a hot minute and I was told by more than one person :) that my swa is perfect. There…PhD pap!!

African Culture Ambassador

There has to be a deliberate effort to repair what was broken. My way is through conscious engagement; whether it’s in the conversations with Baba (may he continue to rest in power) at the Shrine Cultural Center, representing at a local elementary school or writing a white paper for a start up company, there is power in showing up with a new narrative.

Aloo Fashion.

It’s not what you wear. It’s how you wear it. An accessory can transform your look in a way that brings out the radiance of your inner being as well.

Beginning March 8th, I’ll be at the East End Market selling some of my hand made accessories. Please stop by.

Rhumbandazi

For the ‘sipangwingwi’ crew, let’s gather, sip and vibe to some Rhumba as we connect and/or discover what’s already present but needs revival. It’s necessary to deliberately create spaces of belonging that allows communities to enjoy their culture in order to spark creativity that supports their thriving.

……coming soon to a city near you………

Friends of Africa.

Friends of Africa is a non-profit focused on creating and supporting spaces that teach and enrich our beautiful African culture.

Our main program (AfroKidVenture) reaches out to kids in our community to provide them with a platform through which they can learn the African Culture in various creative ways. We also aim to expose our kids in the community’s various spaces early and often so that they can aspire to be their best selves in the environments they already are in.
