Erokamano…feeling grateful
Me I’m just happy I can feel my toes. And fingers.
Now that I can feel my fingers, let me give out ‘flowers’ yajowa.
Erokamano Nyarboro.
Mummy taught us a lot, but a lot of what we learned, she did not teach, she embodied. The one thing this Texas winter storm reminded me of, is when THAT “gimoro nonyisa” gut feeling comes up, pay attention. Pay attention well well; especially when the whispers begin to feel like an ancestor added you to a WhatsApp group and assumed you would read the messages. And just like the other 21 whatsapp groups you stumbled into, you just marked as read but didn’t really read; you have to do this to keep the message notification number from disturbing your mental peace.
Anyway, that mind that says, ‘check your off-grid survival kit’ right before a winter storm, is someone on the other side looking out for you.
Mum, a flower for you.
What we learned from you, came through in the buckets that we quickly filled with water when we sensed that kumeumana. It came through in how we embodied ubuntu; we survived with all pachorians not just carrying more than their weight but also deliberately keeping spirits high. Thank you pachorians! A flower for each of you.
This week, I am especially grateful, for light and wifi.
It’s black history month so wacha I give flowers to Phillip Emeagwali, Lewis Latimer and Garrett Morgan. Here’s to these great inventors and to those that loved on them into their genius. #ubuntu
Thank you to the winter gods for coming to take your winter back
